At Wine Country to the Rescue, our mission has always been about more than just supporting firefighters—it’s about making a lasting impact on the lives of those in need. In 2018, we were proud to raise $30,000 for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation, an organization that has been transforming the lives of burn survivors and their families since its founding in 1971.
This partnership is a testament to the power of community and generosity, and we’re honored to shine a spotlight on the incredible work of the foundation, particularly its life-changing program, Champ Camp.
About the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation
Named in memory of 8-year-old Alisa Ann Ruch, who tragically lost her life in a backyard fire pit accident, the foundation was established to prevent burn injuries and support those who have experienced them. Over the past five decades, the foundation has become a national leader in burn prevention education and survivor support, providing critical resources to help survivors rebuild their lives.
Burn Prevention and Education
The foundation’s programs are focused on reducing the number of burn injuries through proactive education. From safety presentations in schools to partnerships with fire departments, their outreach efforts teach children and families how to prevent accidents and respond to emergencies.
By supporting the foundation, we’re not only helping those affected by burns but also working to prevent future tragedies.
Champ Camp: A Summer of Healing and Joy
One of the most inspiring programs the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation offers is Champ Camp, a free summer camp designed specifically for young burn survivors aged 5-17. Held annually, Champ Camp creates a safe and supportive environment where kids can connect with others who have experienced similar challenges, fostering healing, confidence, and joy.
Here’s why Champ Camp is so special:
Building Confidence: For many burn survivors, scars—both physical and emotional—can impact their self-esteem. At Champ Camp, kids are surrounded by peers and counselors who understand their journey, empowering them to embrace their uniqueness.
Fun-Filled Activities: From swimming and hiking to arts and crafts, the camp offers all the fun of a traditional summer camp, adapted to meet the needs of burn survivors.
Lifelong Friendships: Campers often leave with lasting bonds and a sense of belonging that carries them through life’s challenges.
For families and survivors, Champ Camp is a beacon of hope, offering an unforgettable experience that helps children rediscover joy and resilience.
A Partnership That Makes a Difference
The $30,000 raised by Wine Country to the Rescue in 2018 went directly to supporting programs like Champ Camp, ensuring that young burn survivors have access to this transformative experience. This donation was made possible by the generosity of our event sponsors, donors, and attendees, who share our commitment to making a difference.
